I dreamed a dream...

Gabriella - I had a very special experience. Sometimes I have a deja-vu experience where I know I´ve seen/been in that situation before. usually I´ve seen it in a dream. It´s not as cool as Joseph of Egypt or anything, but this experience was a sacred, special experience for me.This happened in Ukraine, at BYU, etc. It doesn´t happen very often and I am usually not sure why it happens. But what I got from it in Ukraine was that I was where I was supposed to be. SO, with Gabriella. Hna del Canto and I were tracting and we walked down a dirt path and started talkikng to the only woman there. We were behind a school, there was a big tree to the left...everything was surreal, I knew I had seen it before in a dream. We talked to her and I started testifying of family and the Plan of Salvation. She started crying and saying something about knowing where her mother is. I felt the Spirit so strongly - I am sure I was supposed to talk to her. she wasn´t sure about having us come over because of her husband, but we got her phone number. I hope and pray Gabriella will read the folleto and that she´ll accept us to teach her. I know that I was supposed to be there at that time for her. I am so grateful to the Lord for this experience and for his guidance in our plans.

Cristian - FOUND AN APARTMENT! He moved out of his girlfriend´s house! WOOHOOOOO!!!!! But... he´s having doubts about the Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith, etc. Oh Satanas is cruel! I, however, learned something very important as I taught him about the Urim and Thumim (thank you Mom for teaching me everything in seminary!), seer stones, etc. I never doubted the translation of the Book of Mormon. I never truly thought, ¨Did Joseph really use the Urim and Thumim, did he see the sword of Laban, is all of this possible?¨ I never doubted because I knew and I know the Book of Mormon, the teachings from the profets of the Americas about Jesus Christ, are true. And because of that, everything feel into place. But with Cristian´s questions and doubts, and with others I have encountered, I have learned more and it has strengthened my testimony. With their doubts, I am able to testify with even more assurance and with boldness - because my testimony is being strengthened. Yes, Joseph Smith used the Urim and Thumim and the power of God to translate the plates. I hope Cristian begins to see what I see - not with my eyes, but with my heart.

Hermana Alberzua del Canto - My first week with my nueva companiera... it was surprisingly good. She´s SO funny! Not funny with jokes, but funny with personality. She´s dramatic, squeals a lot, says, ¨Que horror!¨ has perfect nails, hair, teeth, etc. She´s perfectly organized. Hna Alberzua´s a riot! She is very powerful teacher - I am learning SO much from her teaching style. Very well thought out and it makes perfect sense. If someone has a doubt, she is the perfect teacher to fix it by explaining very thoroughly. Her Spanish is perfect, which is very helpful for me. We have gotten in a few tussles because she does missionary work very very differently than I do, but I am learning patience and learning that her way is great sometimes. And actually she´s becoming one of my really good friends.

Conferencia - We had Conferencia de Zona today and it was SO great!!! I LOVE the Elders in my Zone. They are so great. And I have a great district right now. I LOVE President and la Hermana Detlefsen. Pres. Detlefsen is the perfect President for me. He teaches with so much love and power - he jokes around ALL the time, but his testimony is so powerful. I love his view on the scriptures - he thinks about how Nefi or Alma would have said it and that´s the way he reads it outloud. In our interview, he taught me a lot about planting seeds. I asked him, ¨President, what do you want me to do this transfer?¨ (but of course I asked him in Spanish, haha) He said (in Spanish), ¨I want you to LEARN.¨ Bueno, I have decided I am going to stop trying to take charge and start learning more.

Italia Family - Oh, we have a family that wants to learn information about BYU and the housing market for young married couples. They are Argentine, the Dad (who´s like 24) served in Arizona, and wants to raise his 5 week old baby girl Giovanna in the USA. They need information about BYU housing. Ben or Mom, could you find some things out for them? They don´t know internet, nor much time or oney to go to an internet cafe for very long. Anyway, that would be great if you oculd do that service.

This work is incredible! I am pumped after our conferene - I am going to continue to build my faith and hope in the work of the Lord. I will be successful because it´s not ME, it´s the Spirit and the Lord´s special work! As His instrument, I have to believe that with His help I can do all things!!!

Animo y adelante! Hugs and Handshakes!

ARGENTINA & Mudial

Happy Father´s Day, Dad!!!!!!!

Thanks for the cartas! I got mail from Alex Evans, Bennett Myres, the Jarvis Family, Janae, etc. Thanks SO much! Getting mail is is like receiving presents! ;)

ARGENTINA!!!!! Si, el Mundial is going on and Argentina won last week!!! WOOHOO!!! They are playing South Korea tomorrow - good thing we have our planning on Thursdays and won´t be contacting, because NO ONE will be in the streets! All of the casas have Argentina and Messi on the television. All of the talk is Argentina Argentina Argentina! Woohoo!!! GO EEUU! haha Nah, I want Argentina to win all the way! But my comp wants Chile... uh oh! haha
Well, that´s not ENTIRELY true that no one will be in the streets because when we were contacting the last game, we ran into a lot of Jehovahs Witnesses and a couple people who were on their way to the watch the game. Haha. But after that; NO ONE! haha One of the Jehovah´s Witnesses was a a younger man, maybe 25, and it was amazing because he was so close to being open to the gospel. He said he´d like to know why we believe in Joseph Smith, but he refused the BOM. Then he said he just couldn´t change and was really nice in saying no, unlike many other people here, haha. But as he walked away, Hermana Abarzua and I both looked at each other and said, ¨¨He would make a great YM´s leader!¨¨

After the game, I had a real Argentine Asado - HOLY COW (hehe), SOOO GOOD! ¨¨La Vaca es espectacular!¨¨ It was with a menos activo familia - la Familia Herrera, the cousins of the Flia Herrera in Villa Mitre II. They are SO great, I love them ALL, but they were drinking and yelling at each other.. it was quite the experience! haha The Father and the uncle are ex-bishps who are inactive. All of the 7 or 8 children are inactive except for the youngest, Enzo, who is a capo! La Hermana Herrera is the only active one, and we have a fecha with her grandaughter Nahir, the daughter of Soledad. It´s so sad to see that there are SO many inactivos that are ex-bishiops, ex-missionaries, ex-presidentes de quoruoms, etc. The majority were really active for a while or their parents are really active and they are not. There are so many families that do not have active children or grandchildren.

We had a new family in the capilla on Sunday!!! Ariel y Eva and Ariel´s 12 year old son and their 2 sons. They LOVED it! Eva came to an actividad con la Sociedad de Soccoro on Saturday, so she knew lots of women in the church. And Ariel had a friend a long time ago who he played soccer with who joined the church and went on a mission. This friend came home and then left to live in the States. Ariel had always wondered how this huge change occurred with his friend. Apparently he had a lot of GREAT questions in Sunday School and was very assertive. I am really excited - I think they can definitely progress!

We also had la Familia Herrera in Villa Mitre II come again!!!! Ohhh wow, this is the second time they came to church in years!!! Martin and Pomela are SO amazing. They have their doubts and sins, but don´t we all? The Church is a hospital to grow and progress and change, week by week, year by year. The members here are very catty, they LOVE gossip, and getting into other´s business, so it´s hard for menos activos to feel accepted when everyone knows what happened. The church is perfect and the members are not - I always try to allow everyone feel the Savior´s love in the capilla (church building). We are going to have a family home evening with them tomorrow.
Another menos activo is Claudia - a returned sister missionary. She came last week and again this last week with three of her children. Her husband isn´t a member, and I think her 9 year old isn´t baptized, so we´re trying to work with them. Hna Abarzua del Canto and I went over yesterday and she brought out her mission pictures. It´s amazing that here she served the Lord for a year and half and had a TON of baptisms, and she now is inactive. She told us that she just started coming back because one of her converts called her up a few weeks ago and said, ¨¨Why aren´t you going to church? Go to church, Claudia!¨¨ So, she did! I love her and her children - her children always give me BIG hugs and all their drawings and stickers they have. I LOVE these people!

I am trying to figure out why I am here in this ward. What can I, Hermana Tingey, do for these people in THIS area? How can I help change their lives? I can´t do it alone and I constantly pray for help from the Lord, for guidance, for the Spirit. I am praying for gifts of the Spirit - I am praying for the gift of tongues to say what I need to say in their language, the gift of interpretation of tongues to know what they are saying and also what they need in their heart, and the gift to do miracles in this area as a missionary. If you all could pray for me to recieve these gifts to help these people, I would appreicate it. Oh, I appreciate all of your prayers so much! thanks sooo much! I hope and pray I can be a good instrument in the Lord´s hands.

I LOVE this gospel! I hope and pray I can do something for these people - that I can help my companion, that I can help the menos activos, that I can help bring SOMEONE unto Christ through faith, repentance, baptism, and the Holy Ghost. I hope the baptisms will come soon!

I love you all!
Animo y Adelante!! Handshakes and Hugs!

Chilena y Americana duo

FAMILIA! Muchas gracias por todos los emails! I love hearing from all of you! I try to write you all back a little message, but please don´t be too angry if I don´t get to all of you. I think about you OFTEN and pray for you daily. Sometimes we talk to a thirteen year old boy and I say, ¨I have a brother your age!¨ Or I think, ¨I wonder if Dad or Ben or Jackie did this... on their mission?¨ Or ¨Abby and Elizabeth would LOVE her earrings!¨ And of course, ¨Wow, I miss Mom´s Sunday dinners!¨ Know that not one of you are forgotten!

Bueno. I GOT A NEW COMPANION!!!!! Her name is Carla Estefenia Albersua Del Canto from Santiago, Chile. I am not going to lie, at first I was a little upset because she lived with Hna Kjar and I last transfer with a Mini-Missionary. We didn´t get a long great - she LOVED Hna Kjar, but ignored me a LOT. Haha She is VERY different than I am - more of the girly girl, high maintenance, extremely organized type. But like always, the Lord has already shown me what a great team we will make. We have many differences and sometimes I want to scream when she wants to stay in the house and organize all morning instead of do missionary work, but at the same time the house is spotless after hours of labor, and now it´s easier to study and to plan at night. So, everyone has different ways of working, and I am learning a new technique from her. I have already decided to make her my best friend - and so far, we´ve been doing great together. Plus she´s a nativa, so I will finally practice my Spanish 24-7!

NEWS!!!!! We have TWO BARRIOS (wards) - Villa Mitre 2 y Harding Green (pronounced with a Castellano accento! haha) - it´s going to be INSANE!!! techinically it´s 4 areas put into one - LOTS of work to do and LOTS of traveling. It´s hard because it slows the progress in BOTH areas, but this is kinda a trial that the President is doing with us and with Hermanas. I hope and pray we can do a good job with it.
CRISTHIAN HAS A TESTIMONY OF JOSEPH SMITH AND EL LIBRO DE MORMON!!!!!!!!!! It was really sweet because I remember when we first taught him like 5 weeks ago. I bore a strong testimony of Joseph Smith- I can still remember testifying to him and looking into his eyes - they were lost and unbelieving. But now, he knows because he felt a heat in his chest and he just knows. I started crying- oh the JOY this gospel brings! We made a baptismal fecha, but we have to wait because he has to find somewhere else to live because right now he lives with his girlfriend. He´s a little skeptical about this church being the ONLY true church still. We explained that once you now the BOM is true, the rest comes with it. Cristhian needs PRAYERS! I want him to come into the fold SOOO BADLY!!!!

NADIE (nobody) came to the Capilla on Sunday. Hna Kjar and I were devastated. We had gone to look for 4 people and none showed up.... then, in the middle of sacrament meeting the Familia Herrera came!!! The less active family that we´ve been working with that introduced us to the other family and everything. I was SOOO HAPPY!!! Their 2 little girls need the gospel so badly.

Sad news - Ana y Betti y Alberto have died. MIssion terms - they have asked not to have us over. Ana´s mom is furious, so she asked us to wait a couple weeks to visit her, but I´m a little worried. And Betti y Alberto found an Evangelico Church. It broke my heart, but RIGHT after that happened, we met Leonardo in the calle. He´s from Peru and he said, ¨Hey, you´re mormons, right? I want to be one!¨ Well, the capilla is right up there and all we need are a couple priesthood holders and YOU´RE GOOD! haha BUT, he´s in a different area and his parents won´t let him until he´s older.

I was working in Harding Green for the first time and we went to go visit a less active family... come to find out, the mother is the cousin of the Herrera family that came to church with us on Sunday!!!!!! Soledad is the mother and she is a member, her husband is not, and they have two children - a daughter who has 9 years old and a son, Owen (good ol Americano nombre) who´s 1. Soledad is a less active member who got pregant when she was young - 16 ish - and the ward disowned her. Her husband isn´t a member (yet!) and Nahir, her daughter, wants to be baptized! She reads all kinds of books from the church - True to the Faith, scripture study guides, the BOM, etc. She attends church with her grandma everyweek. SO, trying to be a bold missionary, I asked, ¨Well, should we put a meta (goal) for your baptism?¨The parents said sure, so we made one in June because they´re kinda supersticious or something and want to do it around the day of the cobra (??) or something. SO, we have A FECHA! And Nahir is RE BUENA! Ella es una capa!

Esta iglesia es verdadera! I know this church is the only church with the authority of God to open the doors of Heaven through baptism and other covenants we make with God. I know there are many good people who love Jesus Christ and there are many people who are content with their spirituality, but I KNOW that they can be blessed SO much more with the knowledge we have - the priesthood, el Libro de Mormon, the covenios en el templo, etc. I want to shout on the mountaintops (if there were mountain tops haha) that this is the unica GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST!!!!
I love you all SOOOO MUCH!!!!!

ANIMO Y ADELANTE!!!!
Hermana Tingey
